Today’s section is curated by Brian Kerr. Brian is a manager on Postmark’s Customer Success team. He loves crafting a great customer experience for Postmark’s customers, the indieweb, and starting everyday with a pot of coffee. He’d love it if you shared with him your favorite coffee roaster or RSS feed.

Here’s what Brian recommends that you check out, and why:
A weekly task list with the Alastair Method
The new year is nearly here. Which means I’m ready to restart up my bullet journaling habit that I stopped in March of this year, with a new spin, the Alastair Method. This post from Rachel Smith is a great introduction to the journaling style.
Gmail’s AI-powered spam detection is its biggest security upgrade in years
Google quietly released new spam detection for Gmail customers last week. Their new model is now able to detect homoglyphs that are trying to trick you to hand over your PayPal details. Even better? The model is open sourced if you want to take advantage of the tech in your own app or service.
Email vs Capitalism, or, Why We Can't Have Nice Things [Video]
Did you know the last RFC for SMTP came out in 2008? In this entertaining talk (I promise!) Dylan Beattie walks through the history of SMTP, MIME, and email address validation. Even if you think you know everything about email, you’ll walk away a little more knowledgeable.
Bonus! Voice of a Star Wars Fan [Video]
A homage to Industrial Light and Magic by Hiroshi Sumi. If the Millennium Falcon is your jam, this is an amazing 20 minute video, I won’t say more.

Words of wisdom from a Postmark customer: Patrick van Marsbergen from Infowijs |

In this month’s customer interview we talked to Patrick van Marsbergen.
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and the work you do?
With over a decade of experience in Software Engineering and Product Development I've delivered many products to the market. Currently at Infowijs I'm an Engineering Manager to support the team's wellbeing and needs and guide the company on our (technical) roadmap.
How are you using Postmark on projects today?
We use Postmark to send all our email notifications to parents, students and teachers using our products Hoy, Brugger and Schoolwiki. With Hoy we send over a half million messages each month sending email notifications of messages and forms published through our platform.
How has Postmark helped you?
We primarily use Postmark's APIs to send email notifications with the Postmark Template system. It's a great feature for our team so we don't have to build our own template engine ourselves and less technical colleagues can make changes to the templates on the fly. Postmark also gives great insights in delivery measurements for our support team to understand if emails have or have not been delivered and why.
If you could give folks one piece of advice about how to implement and manage their email, what would it be?
Use Postmark! It's probably the best product for email sending and best bang for buck. The UI is intuitive and email sending and template management is not a hassle any longer.
We love to publish our customers’ stories. Would you like to be featured next month? Fill in this quick and extremely yellow form, and we’ll make it happen.
